Matebesi Scores Twice as Chargers Blow Out Bobcats 5-1

The Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team earned its first road win of the season with a 5-1 blowout of Bryant & Stratton on Saturday afternoon.
The Chargers (2-9-1 overall, 2-5-1 Region IV) struck for five first-half goals in a span of less than 14 minutes, with two of them coming from sophomore Tumelo Matebesi (Pretoria, South Africa/Willowridge).
Ezechiel Biamungu (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) opened the scoring in the 15th minute. Mike Pavon (Galveston, Texas/Willis) made it 2-0 in the 22nd minute, and Matebesi connected for his first goal in the 28th minute for a 3-0 lead.
The Chargers turned it into a rout as Benjamin Zambele (Beardstown, Ill./Beardstown) and Matebesi scored just 24 seconds apart in the 39th minute to make it 5-0 at halftime.
Sandburg nearly kept the Bobcats (2-8-1) off the board before surrendering a penalty kick in the 86th minute.
The Chargers host DuPage at 4 p.m. Wednesday in another Region IV contest.
